Helsinki, FinlandThe AVS 24th International Conference on Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD 2024) featuring the 11th International Atomic Layer Etching Workshop (ALE 2024) will be a three-day meeting dedicated to the science and technology of atomic layer controlled deposition of thin films and now topics related to atomic layer etching. Since 2001, the ALD conference has been held alternately in the United States, Europe and Asia, allowing fruitful exchange of ideas, know-how and practices between scientists. This year, the ALD conference will again incorporate the Atomic Layer Etching 2024 Workshop (ALE 2024), so that attendees can interact freely.

Tampa Convention Center, Tampa, Florida, USAThe AVS International Symposium and Exhibition has been developed to address cutting-edge issues associated with vacuum science and technology in both the research and manufacturing communities. The Symposium is a week long forum for science and technology exchange featuring papers from technical divisions and technology groups, and topical conferences on emerging technologies. The equipment exhibition is one of the largest in the world and provides an excellent opportunity to view the latest products and services offered by over 200 participating companies. More than 3,000 scientists and engineers gather from around the world to attend. Short courses are offered in conjunction with the International Symposium providing specialized training in specific areas of vacuum science and related technologies. A Career Workshop and Job Center are also offered to all attendees. The Workshop covers such topics as résumé preparation, job search skills, networking, interviewing skills, and more. The Job Center provides the opportunity for job seekers to submit their résumés and meet with potential employers.

Sydney, AustraliaIVC-23 is the 23rd edition of the International Vacuum Congress, which is IUVSTA’s (the International Union of Vacuum Science, Technique, and Application) main meeting that has been held every three years (more or less) since 1959! The meeting attracts around 1,200-1,500 participants and has a vibrant exhibition of around 80-120 vendors. It brings together the entire community of scientists, engineers, teachers, sales people, industrialists that work in areas that are connected directly with, or are heavily influenced by, the science and technology of vacuum.
The meeting has become a hub and celebration of the enabling of modern technology, from medical and food technologies and science, through to quantum computing, and space flight (for example current plasma thrusters for deep space flight). The congress can be seen therefore as the thread that pulls together some of the most important scientific developments and many of the exciting technologies being worked on in Australia and abroad.

De Nederlandse vereniging voor vacuümtechnologie (NEVAC) viert op 13 april 2022 het zestigjarig bestaan in Rijksmuseum Boerhaave, Lange Sint Agnietenstraat 10, 2312 WC Leiden.'s Avonds nodigen we iedereen uit voor een spetterende wetenschapsshow door Stichting Rino en een openbare publiekslezing door prof. Joost Frenken (ARCNL, VU en UvA).

Terwijl wij gewend zijn om ons te bevinden in een gasmengsel, lucht, met een druk van wel één atmosfeer, is op slechts een kleine afstand boven het aardoppervlak de druk al zo laag dat we over vacuüm spreken. Op aarde kost het ons moeite om die situatie kunstmatig te verkrijgen; daarvoor zijn indrukwekkende apparaten nodig, met vacuümkamers en vacuümpompen. Dat kunstmatige vacuüm bestaat in allerlei soorten en maten en vindt zijn toepassing in een breed scala van industriële processen, van vacuümverpakt voedsel tot moderne productie van computerchips. Vacuüm speelt ook een hoofdrol in veel wetenschappelijk onderzoek, van geavanceerde microscopie tot de jacht op elementaire deeltjes. In deze publiekslezing voor jong en oud laat ik u kennis maken met deze bijzondere wereld van onderzoek, techniek en toepassing. Ik word bijgestaan met demonstratieproeven door Stichting Rino. Voorkennis is niet nodig. Interesse wel!
